Jean-Étienne Liotard

Jean-Étienne Liotard (1702–1789) was a Genevan painter, pastellist, and art theorist born to exiled French Huguenots. Known as the 'peintre de la vérité' for his naturalistic pastels, he traveled extensively across European capitals—Constantinople, Vienna, London—where his delicate, graceful portraits were greatly sought.
