August Macke

August Macke (1887–1914) was a German Expressionist painter and leading member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group founded in 1911. His style evolved from Impressionism and Fauvism toward non-objective aesthetics and colour-driven abstraction. Friendship with Franz Marc and Robert Delaunay's chromatic Cubism profoundly influenced his artistic vision. His 1914 journey to Tunisia produced a luminous series now considered major works.
