Charles Jervas

Charles Jervas (c. 1675–1739) was an Anglo-Irish portrait painter, translator, and successor to Sir Godfrey Kneller as Principal Painter to King George I and George II. A close friend of Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift — both of whom he portrayed — his elegant likenesses of Augustan literary and political figures define the visual record of early-18th-century British high society.
