Charles Robert Leslie

Charles Robert Leslie (1794–1859) was an American-born British painter and writer specializing in literary genre scenes drawn from Shakespeare, Cervantes, and other great masters of fiction. A close friend and biographer of John Constable, he served as Professor of Painting at the Royal Academy. His imaginative illustrations of narrative literature and his scholarly art criticism influenced the Victorian art world.
