Elmer Wachtel

Elmer Wachtel (1864–1929) was a prominent American Impressionist landscape painter specializing in panoramic desert and mountain views of Southern California and the Southwest. Born in Baltimore, he relocated to California (1882) where he combined painting with first-violin leadership of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra (from 1888). Studying under William Merritt Chase at the Art Students League and at London's Lambeth School, Wachtel and his wife Marion (1870–1954) traveled extensively via.
