Émile Friant (1863–1932) was a French Realism painter known for social realist genre scenes, peasant life, contemporary subjects. Debuted at Nanceienne Salon age 15; awarded Legion of Honour at age 25 (1888); won first prize at 1889 Paris Salon for 'La Toussaint'; highly acclaimed talent of his era.
