Erastus Salisbury Field

Erastus Salisbury Field (1805–1900) was an American Folk Art painter known for folk portraits, landscapes, historical scenes with flattened perspective. Studied briefly with Samuel F.B. Morse; traveled painting portraits at $4–$5 per adult; from 1847 shifted to landscapes and history paintings; created fantastical 'Historical Monument of the American Republic' (1867–1888).
