François Boucher (1703–1770) was a French Rococo painter known for idyllic pastoral scenes, voluptuous classical themes, decorative allegories. Central figure in formulation and dissemination of mature Rococo style; First Painter of the King (1765); highly marketed works for porcelain, tapestry, and decorative arts; patron was Marquise de Pompadour.
