James Clark (1858–1943) was a British portrait and figurative painting painter known for horses, military subjects, portraits, war scenes. English painter (born Hartlepool, northeast England); trained as architect, became artist in 1875; rose to prominence 1914 with 'The Great Sacrifice'; teacher to Queen Alexandra; known for horse paintings.
