James Peale

James Peale (1749-1831) was an American painter best known for miniature and still-life paintings, younger brother of noted portraitist Charles Willson Peale. After assisting his brother post-1769, Peale served in the Continental Army before settling in Philadelphia in 1779. By the 1780s he inherited Charles's miniature practice, executing over 200 watercolor miniatures on ivory. When eyesight declined around 1810, he transitioned to larger portraits, still-lifes, and landscapes. Four of his daughters became accomplished artists themselves.

Painted by hand. Not printed.

Trained oil painters

Every canvas is painted by hand by a trained oil artist — no prints, no machine finishing. Each piece carries real brushwork, real texture, real layers.

Museum-grade pigment matching

We mix each pigment against high-resolution museum references. The greens of Monet, the gold of Klimt, the blues of Van Gogh — matched, not approximated.

Layered, cured, built to last

Oil paint is built in layers and allowed to dry between them — the way the originals were made. The result is a canvas with depth, weight, and decades of life.
