James Ward (1769–1859) was an English Romantic painter known for animal portraiture, dramatic landscape, equine subjects. RA (1811); mezzotint engraver; Gordale Scar masterpiece (1814–1815) in Tate; influenced by Rubens; retired Hertfordshire (1830).
