Joseph Desire Court

Joseph-Désiré Court (1797–1865) was a French academic painter who won the Prix de Rome in 1821 and went on to direct the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Rouen. A pupil of Antoine-Jean Gros, he is best known for grand-manner historical compositions and elegant Restoration-era portraits, including notable likenesses of King Louis-Philippe and members of the July Monarchy court.
