Joséphine Bowes

Joséphine Bowes (1825–1874), Countess of Montalbo, was a French-born actress, artist and art collector. She studied landscape painting under Karl Josef Kuwasseg and exhibited at the Académie des Beaux-Arts and Royal Academy. With her husband John Bowes, she founded the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle with an exceptional fine art collection.
