David Scott Murray

Sir David Murray RA (1849–1933) was a Scottish landscape painter born in Glasgow who became one of the most successful British artists of his era. Self-educated through evening study at Glasgow School of Art, Murray moved to London (1882) and won the Chantrey Trustees' prize in 1884. Elected Associate of the Royal Academy (1891) and full member (1905), he served as president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (1917–1918).
