Edward Ladell

Edward Ladell (1821–1886) was a largely self-taught English still-life painter widely regarded as the finest of his generation. Born in Hasketon, Suffolk, he produced richly composed studies of fruit, flowers, glass vessels, and decorative objects arranged on marble ledges draped with oriental rugs, following 17th-century Dutch still-life tradition. His astonishing degree of realism and meticulous technique earned him consistent acclaim; his works were perpetually bespoken by collectors.
