James Penniston Barraclough

James Penniston Barraclough (1891-1942) was a British painter primarily known for portraiture in oils, though he also painted landscapes and seascapes. Based in London, he exhibited regularly at the Walker Art Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Portrait Society, and Royal Institute of Oil Painters, becoming a member of the latter in 1922. His portrait work earned respect in National Trust collections, including Clandon Park and Croft Castle holdings. His work exemplified sensitive characterization and skilled technique.
