Jean Raoux

Jean Raoux (1677–1734) was a French Rococo painter best known for elegant 'fancy pictures' of women in classical and literary guises, particularly his noted Vestal Virgin series. A protégé of the Grand Prior of France, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1704 and was admitted to the Académie Royale in 1717. His graceful compositions, rendered with virtuoso technique and delicate color, exemplified the frivolous elegance of Rococo taste.
