Louis William Desanges

Louis William Desanges (1822–1905) was an English artist of French descent who specialized in historical and portrait painting. Born in Bexley, Kent, to a family claiming Chevalier descent, Desanges achieved lasting fame through his Victoria Cross paintings commissioned by Lieut. Col. Robert Lindsay. He produced 50 oil portraits of V.C. recipients between 1859 and 1862, exhibited at the Egyptian Gallery and Crystal Palace, becoming the visual historian of Britain's military valor during the Victorian era.

Painted by hand. Not printed.

Trained oil painters

Every canvas is painted by hand by a trained oil artist — no prints, no machine finishing. Each piece carries real brushwork, real texture, real layers.

Museum-grade pigment matching

We mix each pigment against high-resolution museum references. The greens of Monet, the gold of Klimt, the blues of Van Gogh — matched, not approximated.

Layered, cured, built to last

Oil paint is built in layers and allowed to dry between them — the way the originals were made. The result is a canvas with depth, weight, and decades of life.
