Walter Granville-Smith

Walter Granville-Smith (1870–1938) was an American illustrator and painter who produced the first colour illustration published in the United States—for Gertrude Atherton's 'A Christmas Witch' in Godey's Lady's Book (January 1893). A pioneering figure in colour reproduction, his illustrations appeared in Harper's, Scribner's, and Century magazines. After 1900 he focused on landscape painting in the Impressionist tradition. His works are held in the Smithsonian Institution and multiple museum collections. Master Canvas Art offers 1 hand-painted oil reproduction of Walter Granville-Smith's work.

Painted by hand. Not printed.

Trained oil painters

Every canvas is painted by hand by a trained oil artist — no prints, no machine finishing. Each piece carries real brushwork, real texture, real layers.

Museum-grade pigment matching

We mix each pigment against high-resolution museum references. The greens of Monet, the gold of Klimt, the blues of Van Gogh — matched, not approximated.

Layered, cured, built to last

Oil paint is built in layers and allowed to dry between them — the way the originals were made. The result is a canvas with depth, weight, and decades of life.
