Wilhelm Trübner

Wilhelm Trübner (1851–1917) was a German Realism painter known for portraits, landscapes in spontaneous restrained style. Part Leibl circle with Schuch, Lang, Thoma; influenced by Manet; advocated 'art for art's sake' philosophy (beauty in painting's formal values, not subject); joined Berlin Secession 1901; professor Karlsruhe Academy 1903–1917.
